Connecting or forwarding your GoDaddy domain to GetOiling

This article will guide you on how to connect your existing GoDaddy domain to your website. Following this step-by-step guide will help you seamlessly integrate your domain with your site, whether you're changing your Nameservers, adjusting your A Record and CNAME, or setting up Forwarding.

⚠️ Important
Remember to email support@getoiling.com before you start this process. We need to complete some settings on our end first.

Connecting Nameservers

Generally speaking, you will want to change your Nameservers. This is the easiest solution and requires little technical ability, additionally, it allows us to easily create and connect custom emails or mail servers much more easily if that is something you would like to have added.

To change your nameservers open up your GoDaddy dashboard and select My Products from the menu and scroll down to All Products and Services. Then select DNS located next to your domain name.

On the next screen, you will want to scroll down to Nameservers and select Change.

Then select Enter My Own Nameservers (advanced)

Then add GetOilings nameservers

  • ns.liquidweb.com
  • ns1.liquidweb.com

Select Save and if met with a message warning just accept the changes.

This can sometimes take up to 48 hours to propagate so you may need to give it some time. When in doubt you can email support@getoiling.com and we can verify if this has been changed.

Connecting A Record and CNAME

Sometimes you will need to change the A Record and CNAME instead of the nameservers. An example of when this would be needed is if you already have purchased a custom email or subdomain with GoDaddy and would like to continue to have it work.

From the same DNS Management page, select to edit the A Record and change the 'Points to' field to 98.129.229.93,

For the CNAME change the points to field to whatever your domain is. Do not include HTTP or WWW or anything like that. Ex) If your domain was https://getoiling.com/ you can just type getoiling.com in this field.

Setting Forwarding

You may want to forward your domain instead of connecting it to your website. Forward auto directs someone to a specific URL on the internet when they visit it.

To add forwarding to a domain you can open the same DNS Management panel that we have previously been working in and scroll down to forwarding.

Select Add and then add a forwarding domain. Make sure to select the correct HTTP version on your website. If your website has an SSL Certification applied to it (it shows as secure) then you will want to select HTTPS. If it doesn't then select HTTP.

If you are not sure you can email support@getoiling.com and we can help you with this.
