Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the quality and quantity of website traffic to a website or a web page from search engines. SEO targets unpaid traffic (known as "natural" or "organic" results) rather than direct traffic or paid traffic. Unpaid traffic may originate from different kinds of searches, including image search, video search, academic search, news search, and industry-specific vertical search engines.
You may have heard the term 'Content is king' referring to SEO as optimizing your website for search engines is largely about the content you put on your site. If the content is of good quality and solves a problem while encouraging people to engage with it then you have unlocked the key to good SEO. There are many other elements that come into play such as:
- Who links to your site?
- What sites do you link to?
- Link to other websites with relevant content
- The tone of your articles. ex) write for people first, search engines second.
- Put in meta descriptions on pages (you can do this in the page editor under Advanced Settings in the Page Settings area)
- Put meaningful keywords in the web address (you can do this in the page editor by modifying the link path)
- Create & publish unique content consistently to improve your rankings
